SIMPLE SKIN CARE
OVERWHELMED and NEED A START?
Skin care influencers have been overloading their skin with retinols, facial creams, different cleaners, and different serums on a daily basis. The idea of a ten step skincare routine is a myth. Skincare needs to be simple and not adjusted on a daily basis but, adjusted on a weekly basis. This means you should be looking at the patterns of your skin from the last day of your period, all the way to the start of your next period. This can help understand when you get new breakouts, and when to treat them. And when to use a resurfacing retinol to calm the skin down and to combat any dark marks instead of an acne cream.
LET THE SKIN BREATHE
In order to understand the skincare on a weekly basis, it is important to understand that the skin needs to breathe. Meaning a period in which nothing is applied. Even though consistency is key, you do not need to layer on the same products everyday. The consistency in skincare refers to using one product at least one month before tossing it in the trash. It's because your skin can need time to get used to a product. And most products work to prevent future breakouts.
Second, pick one skincare product a week to use. The only skincare product that needs to be used all the time is a moisturizer with SPF, or a facial oil For example, if it is the week before your period and you see breakouts, use your acne fighting treatment three out of the seven days of the week, use this treatment and do not pick you any retinol or serums. Simplicity is key. This is best to prevent ingredients that cannot be mixed. Unknowingly mixing ingredients and overusing a product can be the cause of irritation and breakouts. On the resting days, wash the face with water and finish with moisturizer
WHICH CLEANSER IS RIGHT FOR YOU
For skin cleansers, pick a cleaners that best fits your needs. However, be aware that just because it says acne fighting, it does not mean you need to use it everyday. You do not need to use anything acne related if your skin is not flaring up. It is best to use a cleanser after you sweat, or twice a week when your skin needs to breathe and finish with a moisturizer, or natural skin oil. Regularly, cold water and a clean rag can be used.
