IS RED LIGHT THERAPY the NEW RAVE

Dec 31, 2023

Red Light therapy is the latest emerging treatment with LED  facial masks and tools to target spot acne. These devices is placed close to the skin to help the red light penetrate the skin. Red light therapy uses just red light, which is the lowest wavelength, to improve wrinkles, scars, stimulate collagen and even acne.

But how can light fix all of these things? Red Light therapy or LED therapy works by stimulating the mitochondria on the cellular level. So this treatment really gets deep to solve the issues that are superficial. The mitochondria makes all the energy and ATP the cell needs to carry out its mechanisms. With more energy the cells can work more quicker at a better rate. This grows components of the skin faster.

Red light therapy can help with fine lines and wrinkles. If we look at the skin at a cross section, wrinkles are actually indentations in the skin. And the layers that fall underneath are intended well, rather than all layers of the skin have flat layers. Red light works by stimulating the growth of fibroblast that can turn into collagen. This it gives more plump appearance of  the skin. The fibroblast moves to the surface of the skin which evens out. As we age, the production of fibroblast decreases.

Red Light therapy can also cause positive effects for acne. This is due to the visible light which kills bacteria on the skin. The red light is able to do this due to the wavelength's intensity. The wavelength is just enough to kill the bacteria and stimulate the cells  without causing the formation of free radicals. This form of phototherapy does not cause any down time or irritate the skin. Red light therapy promotes healing of acne scars. It targets deep into the tissue to repair it rather than a topical medical just working at the surface.

Red light therapy is deemed to be safe. During treatment it is important to make sure that the eyes are protected. Individuals with lupus and light sensitive conditions should avoid this skin treatment. The lupus condition causes flare up of rashes on the face. Thus, using red light can cause blistering and burns if the red light is used.
